Is it okay not to text a girl for a few days?

Is it rude not to initiate a conversation with a girl (girlfriend or female friend) for a few days? Would a girl think that the guy doesn't care anymore?

I'm not talking about ignoring a girl. Like, I would respond if she texts first. But if a girl is acting hot and cold (or distant), would it be rude not to text a girl for a few days? Like, 3-4 days?
