Rejection by copout: What she means by "talking to someone else":?

So I got a crush on a girl in class two months ago, told her she was cute... She told me that she already was talking to someone else.

I've heard that girls sometimes say this rather than just "I'm not interested". Is this a common way to reject peoole? Are there any ways to anticipate this response in conversation?

I have recently begun to be interested in another girl in class. I intend to withhold expressions of interest, gradually intensifying as we get closer.

Is there any way I can ensure that she answers genuinely and doesn't say she's "taken" as a copout? Can I say something in conversation when asking the initial question?

I'm going to start by asking to "get to know her better", then ask her out properly after some time.

Turns out she was taken, or at least she said she was... There's no way around this though... Asking about "him" might come off as creepy, and starting off by asking if she's single is also just weird and wrong.

She honestly probably is talking to another guy. Girls have hundreds of not thousands of guys in their dms in this Era. Instagram, snapchat, tiktok etc. I have nondoubt she's talking to another guy, many girls talk to multiple men st once. I'm sorry but this is just the way it is now. It used to be better but women have grown an insane ego and never settle for any man. It's not you, it's all men who aren't the tip top 1% of men.

When dealing with this new girl, be direct. Not in a sleazy way but make your intentions know so there is no wiggle room or plausible deniabilty. Yes I did sort of obsess a bit. And now recently had a minor anxiety "attack" around another girl who also rejected me. It's a very weird place to be in... On the one hand, I obviously don't hanle rejection that well. But neither do I want to supress feelings of infatuation as a sort of "preventative measure". Tried that for years, which turned out to be is unhealthy.

It's not a copout - "talking to someone else" literally means they are interested in someone that's not you.

Of course, and I know that. But some girls still say it even though it may not be strictly true, just because they know that the guy will leave them alone out of respect for the implied boyfriend, even though there might not actually be someone else.

What does it change for you if she rejects you due to another guy she is talking with, or, because she is not interested in you but uses that excuse? In both cases she is not interested in you, the only difference is she is more or less shy to express that and uses honesty or workarounds but the core is the same.
