Flirting or just a compliment?

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to read and (Hopefully) answer my question. I am 24 years old and I have only ever been in one serious relationship which recently ended. Due to this, I haven't really gone through a single phase of my life until recently.

My question is when guys are completing me on my profile picture, Is this an attempt to flirt with me or is it a genuine compliment?

I know each situation has context, but I am looking for a general rule of thumb as I lack confidence in flirting as I am not used to flirting.

Decide for yourself. Set a guideline for you to follow. Let it hopefully follow some practicality, like-

If they compliment your profile it is stating the obvious, but if they say something witty or funny with it, then it’s a flirt.

Flirting will usually be something a guy says to directly make a lady feel like she wants to cat walk, will cause her to laugh, or admit “hey that was pretty smart/clever.”

Word plays/ cute-or-so jokes/ etc.

For the most part any guy who admires in on your appearance. Like they go out of their way to say so, really has some level of physical attraction to you.

SOME level- some guys can just be jerk trains who will just be like a salesman from door to door. He could just be using that as a sort of bait to see if you will be friendly and ultimately willing to engage sexually with him, but once done with that one instance, he may just move on.

Guys just want sexuality; some may want also/ be willing to build upon/ and appreciate a vibe and relationship with the girl as well.

Just know sexuality is on the front burner, so you aren’t like- CRAZY SURPRISED 😱😂.

So to clarify- not all guys will flirt. Flirt is a bit of extra effort.

But most to all guys will be saying it even with some faint interest towards sex.

So if a guy isn’t flirting with you, and he complimented your picture- it’s not just for fashion sense lol

As a general rule, you can say with a reasonable accuracy that a guy in the age group 16-25 (give or take a few years) is more likely to flirt than to give a genuine compliment.

There are a lot of men that skim social media on the lookout for girls that they find attractive and will go to great length to give them compliments (mostly) on their looks and those are the ones that are actually flirting in the hope to start a very short lasting intimate relationship.

Those are the kind of men that you have to really be cautious about because they will make you believe that you are unique whereas they are just trying to place you on their trophy list.

If someone compliments you solely on your profile picture without really knowing you otherwise, then you can reasonably assume that they want something from you and are not really honest when complimenting you. You are only a target.

I tend to have it happen the most when men are talking to me from a work perspective. Then they contact me during non-working hours telling me how pretty I look etc. I don't know if it's general politeness or more.

Well it could be a few things. It could be simply a nice gesture, especially if he’s a friend who doesn’t want to hurt your feelings. I think a compliment, if it’s genuine from a man is a form of flirting especially it it has to do w your looks, or how you smell. Now he could be using a compliment under a false disguise of trying to just sleep w you. While women tend to think men are complicated I think we’re the opposite. Women just make us complicated cause you think way too much into it. Women tend to think that men think like women so whatever you’re thinking a lot of women think we should be thinking the same. If a man really likes you he will make every effort to run into you, to be around you, to do more for you than he would for other women, maybe get you something to eat on his way to work, tease you, making joking w you about you potentially having a boyfriend to find out if you actually do have one or not.

A compliment is a compliment & we all love compliments & some compliments are just compliments & other compliments could be something more. As for your profile picture I’m sure you look wonderful & if some guys found out that you are recently single it’s like feeding time at the zoo & those compliments could be more than compliments.

I'm pretty dense myself. I'd say if you want a general rule to go by, I just take what people tell me at face value. I don't like beating around the bush, having to read into things or having to do detective work.

No problem. In my experience when you stop looking for hidden meanings in things it makes life simpler. I only want to attract people who are just as honest as I am. So if someone gets frustrated by me because I'm not picking up on the hidden meaning in whatever it is they're telling me then to me that's just filtering.

It’s both , Guys’ are very visual people , when we see a girl that we find attractive or beautiful , we compliment her , basically letting her know we are interested in her and that we would love for her to notice us , so yes more than likely he is flirting cuz he is admiring her beauty , we tend to visualize her in our arms wanting us like we want her

its both not either or, men don't compliment like women do, if a woman is beautiful i dont make my way to her just to tell her that, in my mind thats retarded, clearly she is and doesn't need me to tell her, the only reason why I would is if i was interested, it is a "compliment wrapped in a flirtatious introduction"

If its a stranger complimenting on your online profile picture, they are interested in you. If it's from people you know, it might be just an innocent compliment.
