Compliment or insult??

guys and girls, if you were to say to a girl that they look like a barbie doll, or any other kind of doll, particularly their hair, would you mean it as a compliment or insult?

thanks for the responses everyone... but... what if they only said you looked like a doll after your change in haircut and color? But mind you, my hair is not blonde, it's an auburn color and long with a blunt fringe... most prob insult right?

If they specified "barbie doll" it might be an insult. You have to be careful with context though. I know people who referred to a group of girls at my old school as "china dolls" 'cause they wore too much make up, and looked fake. However girls at my school say I look "doll like" because I have naturally rosy cheeks and apparently "great proportions." To me auburn hair in a long cut with a blunt fringe makes me think of some dolls, but it would really depend on the combination of the hair with the rest of how you look. So don't worry to much and think about what you know of the person who said it.

It depends on the context. Some girls who dress up too much with their makeup and blonde hair might be labelled negatively as a barbie. But I have a friend who is blonde and she straightened her hair one day and it looked amazing and I told her that she looks like a doll. In a good way. For some reason I think she took a little bit of offense to that but my other friend agrees that she looked like a doll!

I would say it a compliment because barbie is sexxyy and dolls are perfect, but generally I think it is an insult. I've been called barbie before and it was def meant as an insult when in fact to me I think it's a compliment lol so they didn't hurt me like they wanted to haha.

According to the beholder, a Barbie Doll could be a thing of rare beauty, or a mockingly freakish toy from hell. It's all a matter of perception. If I were you, I'd just take it as a compliment.

Insult because barbies are plastic and stereotyped

Or compliment because barbies are pretty. every little thing about them is supposed to be perfect.

and I hate the expression barbie is a bitch, its a childs doll...so stupid.

But anyway I think Marilyn Monroe looked like a doll, and she was beautiful. And she was almost a walking Barbie.

So I say compliment.

depends who says it because some guys say it meaning you just look fake like a bimbo. but I read on this site just before a guy using barbie doll as in a really hot chick. so it depends on how they say it I supose.
