Would You Make A Good Or Bad Bartender?

Me: 
 Personality wise I'd make a good bartender, but when it comes to making the drinks, probably not so much. People that know me know I tend to be a little too heavy handed with the Alcohol so won't let me make their drinks or they know they'll wind up like:

I don't know, but I would really like to see think I'd be a good one. My current profession.. well, the place I go to trade my time for a check ☺️, consists of mainly.. public service. Customer handling.. yeaahh.. the General Population .."Gen Pop".. If you've ever worked Retail, then I don't have to explain it. Shit can be a highly stressful job, that can take a few years off your life expectancy 😆... Only, however.. if you let it.. You gotta realize that YOU asked for a job, so DO IT!🙂 Yes, it can be a circus.. but instead of seeing the fire pits, watch the show and grab a snack! Bad days exist only because you let it in.. negativity BREEDS negativity. Sure you'll have spots here and there, but if you're going IN to START a shift with negativity and misery of even having to go, then that's on YOU. Greater tragedies exist in life , and they all matter more than 8 hours of moping..

Been at it for 21 straight years, 6-7 days a week.. hustle bustle craziness.. but, here's the jist.. I actually LIKE my job. Haha 😂 The job description beFORE I asked for an application, did say "Wait on People.. the Nice, The Miserable, The Creepy. In closer proximity of the neighborhood... The Drunks The Punks and The Skunks. People are all different, but the same, as well.. a bit of an odd revelation for my rookie eyes (18 in 2001) to witness. Most of the time, as long as you don't F*** up their visit, or make it seem like you just don't give a damn, people are all good.. my case, especially when they realized that I ain't fakin it. You are going to get efficient, honest.. and genuine whenever I see you.. that's exactly why people have returned time and again. The small operation of ours, they all seen the other workers, and they just.. get waited on by their gruff, yeah, whatdya want? Attitude.. or a forced politeness that is evident. Course it is! It's in the air.. and it's a negative energy that a lot of people unwittingly notice.

My retail supervisor in the early years could see that I was not so much"grouch" than I was "confused, in a sense. I used to be a get-it-over-with worker, until I could grasp what exactly is it that I can do to make it better, so I changed. Changed my outlook and attitude.. simple as that. Funnily enough.. bossman thought I was dishonest about me liking my job. Took 2 years for him to believe it.. Years later and now I am a consultant for small, local retailers in how you handle yourself and handle the task at hand. I've been there, paid my dues.. and all retail employees have my adulation.

Sorry for the long intro.. my answer will be short. I promise 😆 .. I think.. Maaaybe? I am excellent at the retail aspect of what a bartender must do.. but that's it. I don't know how to make drinks.. I just know how to DRINK drinks! Frankly, as well.. I think their salaries are crap. How the government TAXES their own tips.. taxing any tips, especially if they really did *earn* it, by going outta their way to make em happy m. Is utter Horseshit.. it's not something I am particularly fond of. My sister's been a bar manager since summer 2000, and she's been the best bartender I know.. and her tips, no matter WHAT amount, the govt wants their piece of YOUR PIE.. demanding it, even. They should reexamine the policies for taxing tip money. Have rates meet up with what they actually have. Lower their greedy take, If tips are meh, for that week

My bartending skills would be as follows:

"Hi ya guys doing? Welcome back/to "here" .. give it to me, now! "
" Hi.. yeah.. 1 Martini dry vermouth no olive.. and 1 Manhattan, spritz in a glass"

" Riiight.. good choice! How about 2 bottles of Beer, instead?"

"Uhh.. No, I didn't a-"

" 2 bottles of beer coming RIGHT up!"

" Well no- uh, ok how ab-HEY! Get back here!"

I'd like to think I was a great bartender, since I got good tips, my choice of swing shifts too cover weekends and holidays, and went through the effort of learning how make drink's and polite conversation with customers simultaneously while listening to the orders being set my way without having to break eye contact with the customers or the bar matron's and waiting staff, who are often giving me thier drink and condiment orders at the same time between us them all, because if you can't give six or seven people you're undivided attention at the same time with a smile on your lips, then what good are you as a bartender. I would make the worst bartender alive.

I struggle when it comes to doing things from a recipe and just like to be creative and do my own thing. My voice is very low generally so nobody would hear me in a bar and while I am a great listener and love to help, I would want to dedicate my entire time trying to work with someone who is sad and I would kinda forget I was working lmao

I don’t think I would make a good one because I’m too honest and if I do not like somebody I will not be good at hiding it and the other thing is my hand and eye coordination is not top notch and I tend to make mistakes when I work too quickly. Also I tend to be unskilled at profiling people so will not know which guy is a top CEO and which guy is from a motorcycle gang.

Done it and while great with the drinks and the patter etc.

I have zero diplomacy skills, if someone came to bar and I did not like them they simply got asked to leave, you gobbled off to me or a barmaid, don’t let door hit you on way out, got gobby or abusive with a girl or could not take a hint,,, yep that door thing again.

we did however have some great lock-ins and some good parties.

I just could not do it and have a huge amount of respect for the likes of (grr can’t tag)

I would make a superb bartender. First I'm already Serve Safe manager certified for food safety so taking the bar safety exam shouldn't be a big deal for me. Second the owner/manager would never have to worry about me drinking on the job since I'm diabetic and can't ever drink anything I make and I never acquired a taste for it even before I was diagnosed with diabetes. And once I know the recipe I will make it consistently that way from then on and quickly. I'm used to working in fast paced restaurant environments. I'm actually considering a job as a bar back at the moment. Florida, where I live is a good area for that business.

I would ROCK, at making the drinks, but if a lot of Whiners came in, for free "Therapy" I am the "HARD LOVE GUY!" and a lot of them probably wouldn't tip well, but maybe they go away, and sort their shit, and grow up, so a "WIN" because they figure out their life with a size 12 Work boot, kick in the ass!!
Actually, that could be the draw, to a certain bar!! NO BULLSHIT BAR!! Come in and whine, and get a drink, and a kick in the ass to sort your shit!! Sometimes "Tough Love" is the best solution!!

Neither... as I was a great bartender!

So good management let me run it all by myself even on busy weekends.

Responsible for the bar displays too.

The bar would be full whilst our customers waited for a table, especially on a packed weekend.

The best feeling was when a customer ordered a cocktail and all eyes are on you as they watch this work of art being created.

You know you've done well when another customer wants the same afterwards.

Even though the pay was less per hour than what my cousin was being paid in a call centre, there was no way I'd give up the friends, work family and sheer satisfaction of working their.

Depends on the bar. Loud college bar, I'd be worse than horrible. Low key pub or dive bar, I'd be great. I'd love talking to the regulars and listening to anything they had to say while wiping the bar down. I also wanna slide a drink down the bar to someone.

Best barman I ever came across was in New York, at a theatre. He was very engaging would have a conversation as he was serving you. I'm from UK and he seemed to have some knowledge of London and surrounding areas. The drink I was ordering were pretty basic, all he was doing was pouring cans or bottle into plastic glasses, but was a very good customer experience. Other bartenders may technically be better mixologist but I'd choose that guy everyday of the week.

I do not drink or condone it. I would be the worse; in that you would get stronger drinks that would put you under. There is a way to mix drinks to literally give the consumer a very near to death experience. There is actually a science behind the mixing of drinks. And Again!!!
