Some things almost always come, like alcohol, the clothes on my back, wallet (condom included), phone, maybe even a hangovercure so I can get going fast the next day. 👣

And what instructions if any I am given.
The season and weather matter too, ofc.

An outdoorsy rave/festival? - Backpack or car, practical and fine sets of clothes, tent, sleepingbag, toothbrush, hygene products, medicalsupplies, basic necessities for making a fire, garbagebag for non-degradable waste, water, light but compact food like proteinbars or pouder-soup/MRE. 👽

Afterwork? - Depends on how it's set up but I'd at least bring my pre-kitted necessity bag, it's small and has most things I'd need.

Homeparty with foodserving? -
Either they have something set up and they tell me what they need or I make suggestions on what I could bring to match their dish or event. 🍰🥮
I might bring ingredients, drinks/bevreges, homemade desserts, bread, condiments, boardgame or my DnD charactersheet.🐉

Midsummer 2021 I brought a blueberry pannacotta with fresh mintgarnish and berries.

Today I am going home to my sister and her family. It's a family-party/grilling-event, so no alcohol. Me and my mom prepaired some food to bring yesterday.
She brings BBQ-sauce, breadbuns and cookies.
I'll bring garlic bread, garlicbutter, smoked papricabutter, herbal-dressing, pinesprout-dressing.. and the most important of them all, my grandmother.

I usually bring cookies (store-brought), or a fruit/veggie tray for those of us watching our weights. Or I'll ask the host can I just give them money and they can buy whatever they want/need

I don't go to parties and therefore I have never been confronted with that situation before.

However, bringing a small attention like you do is perfectly okay in my opinion. It doesn't have to be big or expensive but the attention is what counts.

I do bring flowers when I am invited for dinner if the host is a lady or a bottle of wine if a male invites, whereas I would never go to a man's home alone for dinner.

Beer, coolers, screw drivers, water bottles, mix nuts, chips, cup cakes, mini pizzas. I buy anything so I know when I go to a party I'll have what I like around and of course I share my good stash with everyone. Lol.
