Is Pimms just a way of getting people to eat their 5 a day?

In the UK, come summer many families like to make up a jug of Pimms to share while sitting in the garden. Pimms is a type of gin-based liquor (25% alcohol, 50% proof) that is usually diluted down about 1:3 or (1:4 if you're poor) with either white wine or lemonade if kids are drinking or you're driving. Usually, the jug is filled with sliced fruit, cucumber and fresh herbs such as mint or lemon balm.

But is the fruit just added to make it healthy? And is Pimms just a British thing?
