Wine Barrel

A butt is a unit of measurement pertaining to wine, specifically a butt refers to the amount of wine in a full barrel. So a BUTTLOAD is a full barrel of wine.

According to the Macallan distillery in Scotland, several archaic units are still used in winemaking.

Try your luck at the poll below, which describes some archaic, still-in-use, winemaking measurements.

See if you can pick the correct answer, which will be given in two days... on Thursday.

A butt is 108 imperial gallons, or 491 litres
A tun is one fourth (1/4) of a butt
A hogshead is one half (1/2) of a butt
One-twelfth (1/12) of a butt is called a firkin, also called a rondel
All of the above are correct
None of the above are correct
