What do you do when it gets too hard?

I don't have this problem - I barely buy enough bread for my needs, and only when I need it, so I rarely have left-over bread. The only exception is sandwich bread, and I will only take out half a loaf at once and freeze the other half.
On the rare instance that I do have some left, I will tear it up into little bits and throw it in the yard for the birds. But this is maybe 2-3 times a year.
I intentionally avoid giving the dog bread - it's not especially good for them, whereas most small portions of uneaten food go to the dog (s).
I am offended by this poor baguette feeling unwell. I demand you cease your torture! If you don't comply, I am ready to invade your country with all weapons at my disposal and butcher jello. You have been warned, there will be no turning back.
Now, yes, what do I do with hardened baguettes? Hmm, most of the time I trash them, as I know its not good for birds, very rarely I turn them into what we call "Lost Bread" in french: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pain_perdu
Bread and any other yeast dough isn't especially good for birds. I just throw it away.
Grating is an option but hard bread of buns make food processor blades dull in seconds. Another option is south German Semmelknödel which taste very good if made with dry old rye bread.
put it in the microwave for one minute. Cut it in half and push the meat down a little bit. Stuff it with meat, cheese, marinara, and more cheese. To the oven it goes for 350° for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Serve with salad.
Hanging out here on Girls Ask Guys, sharing and munching through life's tasty and sometimes not-so-tasty bits. Ah, stale bread, that dreaded outcome of our often too-optimistic bread buying habits. Honestly, I see stale bread not as a downfall but as an opportunity to whip up some culinary magic. Tossing it out? Never! That's like admitting defeat in the face of a gastronomic challenge. Feeding the birds is kind, but let's get creative. Breadcrumbs are a go-to for me—perfect for coating, adding to meatballs, or even thickening soups. Croutons for salads or soups give them a new lease on life too. And if I’m feeling a bit nostalgic or indulgent, bread and butter pudding is the way to go. It's like giving that stale bread a glorious, sweet second chance. 🍞✨

I love French Bread but the moment that it gets to hard is when it’s bad so you have to throw it out unless there’s a certain trick you can put it in the microwave or put some water on it, but you have to eat that kind of bread pretty quickly after you buy it
There's different things you can do. My favorite one my mom used to do was dip a slice of bread in eggs soak it and then put it in a frying pan and then eat it with cinamon and sugar. :)
Grandma had a nice in-between meal:
"poor man's soup"
Old bread is soaked in salty broth and with a little butter added to it.
As was already mentioned: a little water sprinkled on it an in the oven for a few minutes, will repair it.
Lasy option: grate it and keep it dry. It's a good base for the crust when you make "Schnitzel".
I put it in the toaster, it gets crunchy in a good way and I eat it either with olive oil, oregano and some cheese on the side or I spread some butter on it.
It’s time to stop taking viagra or levitra or cialis guys. And stop staying up days at a time where you fall asleep with your cock ring still on. And if it cookies your talking about the soft ones you leave out they will get hard and the hard ones will get soft or just put it between 2 slices of bread
I like to make French toast with bread that's past its prime, but let's be honest... I can't eat enough French toast to use it all up. Usually it just hits the bin.
Its usually is okey as toast if its not totally rock hard , I dont like throwing it out but sometimes no other option.
We eat so much bread it rarely gets hard. If and when it does, I usually crumble it into pieces and toss them out onto the lawn for birds and other creatures (squirrels and chipmunks) to enjoy.
Would putting olive oil on it make it softer? Or cutting it up and using it as a dip in cheese fondue or with a spinach dip.
It's perfect for French toast. You can also grind it up for meat loaf or chicken tetrazzini, if it is thoroughly dry/stale.
The best thing @purplepoppy is to put it in something warm and moist to ensure it's not wasted
Do you not have some plastic you can wrap it in to avoid it getting stale? Otherwise, I say make some homemade bread crumbs.
Ends up in soup or rather bottom of bowl and sound over it.
I make my own breadcrumbs. Stale bread, pretzels, crackers , potato chips and anything else I can find. Or sometimes I just like to eat stale Italian bread when it is really hard just to get my money's worth from my dentist.
IT MUST BE CONSUMED BEFORE YOU REACHED THAT POINT. xD that is my rule
of course...
they go into the mole sauce pot of ingredients...
Breadcrumbs then freeze. I like making fresh bread sauce with chicken and decent artisan breadcrumbs in the freezer is always a plus.
moisten it with water - put it on the oven on warm - and boom
Dice it up. Season it and bake it into breadcrumbs.
If you really need to make a sandwich, sprinkle water on it and microwave for a few seconds. Soft bread again
I put French bread in a big ziplock bag and it will stay good for at least a few days. If the weather is over 90 or 100 degrees I'll put it in the fridge, too
Toast it add spices and make bread crumbs out of it.
I'd not eat it or buy it either. I'd have chucked it lol
Eat with soup or give to the pigs depending on the time of year.
Warm them up just a bit- )
Put jn the oven and reheat. Good as new!
It's bad for the birds. Chuck it.
Throw it away and get softer bread
Cover it with damp paper towel in microwave it
Well I just don't let it waste
Think of Lizzo !!!
Toast it
Pudding
I whack it
