Should your Halloween candy be allergen free?

Should your Halloween candy be allergen free?

I was recently talking to a friend about our upcoming plans for Halloween, part of which involve handing out candy to the neighborhood kids. I was telling her I always gave out snickers, blow pop lollipops, m&m's, etc. and stuff I liked as a kid. She looked at me shocked and said I should stop doing that because kids have allergies and you don't want to give them something with nuts or other allergens.

Should your Halloween candy be allergen free?

I have never in my life not given away chocolate or candy with nuts on Halloween. I'm not these kids parents. They are coming to my house for FREE treats. If their parents are bothered by this, their parents should not allow trick or treating or be going through their stash and tossing out things they can't eat or giving them to the ones who can. Who's right?

You are right. Give out whatever you want to give out. It's not your responsibility to worry about random kids allergies
Your friend is right. You should hand out allergen free candy to be on the safe side
You are both right, and you should offer both types of candy
