What's this flat bit for?

I got a freebie with an order today, it's a key ring with what I think is a bottle opener. But there's this flat sticky out bit on top with a little space underneath.

I've no idea what it's for. I feel it might be for opening can lids like on tins of golden syrup but that's just a guess.

As others have said, it's to lever open the pull tabs on a soda or beer can, without having to use your fingernails. Flip the tool over and slide the flat blade under the pull tab and lever it open.

Can opener. You slip that under the pop top tab and push down on the part of the opener that's hanging over the edge of the can and that lifts the tab up.
