I've had a few male friends and previous boyfriends sometimes ask questions about “why” I am doing something, only to hear them decide, “I don’t understand you women.”

Well, here have been my favourites over the years, and if some women would be inclined to add their own or disagree and explain their reasoning behind some of these examples, then maybe we can call this our GaG Manual to Understanding Women.

Why do you pluck your eyebrows only to draw them on again?

For shape and colour. Plucking scraggly hairs under the main brow allows us to look a bit cleaner and to better apply eyeshadow as a highlight under the brow. Some women out-and-out make mistakes or overpluck which then has them drawing the brows back on, but usually it’s to manipulate the arc and to draw in a bit of fullness when there is thinness throughout the brow.

Why wear makeup then apply rouge/blush when your face is naturally pink?

Because placement of wear the redness is on the face can contour the look. We don’t want that patchy red look in the middle of our faces, we want soft glows on the outer part of the face. That subtle shadowy appearance to make the face look a bit more toned. (See the difference of the red from the centre of her face to her sides.)

Why is it if something is wrong, you make us guess what it is instead of telling us?

Because we intrinsically think that since we know what your bad moods are about or why something is wrong, you should surely tell with us too. Things that happened right under your nose and you didn’t take notice is like adding salt to the wound. Other times it’s letting us down, such as when we ask you to do a favour. If the favour isn’t done, we’ll feel disappointed. You should have known that. *smirk*

Why do you have to talk to your mom so much?

Talking to anyone gives us an emotional boost because we are naturally communicative beings. We also like variety in who we talk to. So talking to only you or only one friend sometimes isn’t enough. We like to keep our social bonds strong with many people. We’ve been wired that way since we were all living in caves. Men would go hunt and provide, women would stay in caves, cooking and raising children – and talk.

Why do you duckface?

To try to look sexy. We grew up with fashion magazines showing models constantly pouting and puckering, being sultry. Now that we can take selfies, we're just trying to mimic that look. We think if we can look sexy, and we're normally in a shell, you'll look at us differently. If we're already attention-seeking, we want you to validate our looks and remind us that we're gorgeous. Also, most women deny that their duckface is actually a duckface. They think this is only something other women do, because no woman likes being called out on her duckface!

Why do you go shopping, but you just walk around from store to store at places you don’t need anything from and don’t bother actually buying anything?

Because part of “nesting” is to go out and look for things and just dream. We are more or less out collecting ideas and just taking mental notes of things we can envision having, so it brings a little emotional fulfillment.

You hate someone, but when something goes wrong in their life you get upset for them. Are you insincere?--or just looking for attention?

We are natural creatures of sensitivity. Even through our dislike, [most of us] have the ability to put aside our negative feelings to see if we can help or to empathize.

Why do you have so many shoes?

Those of us who do have a lot of shoes usually have different purposes for the shoes. We don’t want to ruin our sandals if it’s raining out, so we’ll have summer shoes instead. (See image below.) For weather, activity, and outfits, we incorporate the footwear accordingly.

Why do you show off your boobs but get mad when we look at them?

That, I don't know.

I guess I'm not a woman because none of this is recognizable to me. I don't care if men look at my breasts. They're on display of course they will notice, just like I stare at their groin area when they sit with their legs wide open.. them balls dudes.. them balls hahaha. Some strange brain activity in my female brains causes that. But I try to not let in control me.. so I basically have to tell myself "bitch why are you upset about this? It's bullshit.. you shouldn't be upset!".

If I were a woman I'd answer them like this:

1. Repositioning.

2. There's a difference between pink from the cold and makeup pink, at least for me.

3. I don't know the answer to that question. I guess it works for some people, but for me, I always have to be sure about things, and I hate to jump to conclusions, so if I were a woman, I wouldn't put someone in that position, and I know several women who would not do that too.

4. I'm a guy and believe me, I talk to my mother a LOT. I think it's mainly because my dad never talks to me much and if I talk to him about something, he nods and has no say in the matter, and my mother could go on talking for hours about something. It helps me as well sometimes.

5. I would never do the duckface. Probably because I'm a guy with the knowledge already that most guys in this modern day do not find it attractive. There are plenty and plenty of sexier faces you could pull. It's not even sexy, at all. In fact, just smile, that will do.

6. Me at video game stores. I also love walking around shopping malls, it makes me feel good and beats walking in a park.

7. This does not apply if the person is depressed. Depression is a very big thing, but women seem to only care when something physical happens, but emotional wounds can be far far deeper. Perhaps this is because the person they hate is attached to them giving emotional pain in the past and therefore, it's revenge? I half agree with this point.

8. I'm the opposite. I only have one pair of shoes. I'm a bit of a minimalist, I try my best to keep things clean, tidy and to the minimum. That's why my room looks very empty, and I like that. That means plenty of room to dance to music.

9. Boobs create a "sexy woman" image. Looking at them is fine, I mean, for the woman in the picture, that can't even be avoided, by any gender, but they're not for staring at, because that's just weird.

Tip for guys: If you want to stare at them, ask to take a photo of yourself and her, then stare at it all you want back home. Not sure if this will help.

It's because the girl wants to attract the guy but wants to believe that the reason he's attracted to her is not because of her cleavage. She wants to believe it's because of her amazing personality. So when she catches the guy looking she is disappointed that he's not there for her personality. So why not put her tits away? Because then she'll attract less guys. The girl in the picture is setting herself up for disappointment. She's not confident enough in her non-physical assets that she'll compensate to get the attention but secretly is unhappy that she has to resort to it. Us looking only furthers this for her. Sorry. I think it is for the same reason that rich guys claim they want a woman that doesn't care about money, but then try to win every girl by flashing his money. Those guys don't know how else to attract a woman, so that is the only reason any woman would like him. Likewise most women that get upset when guys look don't know how to attract a man any other way, and is disappointed that guys aren't falling for a trait she wishes he would see, but that she either doesn't have, or never shows.

A woman should be able to wear whatever she wants to wear. And there is a high possibility that she does this for a particular guy and doesn't want to get attention from other guys. Understandable.

But let me turn this around. If some guy wanted to surprise his girlfriend and walked around in the city in some see through pants and underwear and you could see his... manly-hood... NO woman in the world would say "Oh, he's probably wearing this for his girlfriend so I better not look". Whether they love it or hate it, women would be looking no matter what his intentions would be.

That last one is kinda stupid though. I don't have big boobs but I understand the problems that women with big boobs have to go through. Boobs are just there, whether you like that or not. Most of the time it's not about showing off, they're just THERE. And should women with big boobs have to go around wearing hoodies and turtlenecks in the summer? Heck no. A top with even the slightest lower cut WILL show off cleavage no matter what if your boobs are big. It's like saying that you're showing off your hands if you're not wearing gloves in the summer.. wth? Nothing is convenient about gloves in the summer unless you do some kind of sport that could cause damage to your hands if you don't wear them. Likewise, nothing is convenient about wearing hoodies or turtlenecks in the summer. You can't hide boobs, they're always there.

I think for the last one, it may be that we want to look sexy, we want to be undoubtedly desirable, gorgeous, sexy, etc BUT we don't want our looks to be the only reason we are drawing your attention. About the boobs one - we do it for the same reason we dress up - to feel confident and sexy. But if you're onvious while staring at our 'boobs' it can feel really uncomfortable.

Women are subtle creatures - we check guys out ALL the time, but unless we want you to know, you won't. So if we notice you looking for too long and making it obvious that you are, it feels like you're saying we're not worth the extra effort of subtlety.

Also, I don't like this trend of showing so much cleavage. I sometimes wear very deep necked shirts but I don't wear bras that squish everything until every time you look at me its boob central. Women should be allowed to do what they want though. A lot of women have told me I'm too flat chested to wear such deep necked shirts but I think it gives a sleek look.

I was at the movies with my friend and I was wearing a crop top where my shoulders showed, there was slivers in the top for my shoulders and it ran down to my elbows, and the top only showed my stomach (BARELY) when I stretched. There is a biology to this. Do you know that in almost every species on the planet, the male is the "more attractive" of the two genders and more brilliantly looking than a female. Look at birds, lions, hell even fish!--males are, for the reason to attract a mate, naturally more attractive. This is while human males are [usually] taller, and have prominent features. We women wear makeup as a means to compete with other women to boost what is naturally attractive to get the attention of a mate. Thousands of years ago, makeup was worn as a sign of importance in some cultures (Egypt, Greece, etc.) and today we've simplified the use of makeup to just enhance what is already there.

Men wearing wigs is not seen as important to women because the natural attractiveness a male already has should be enough, hence why it seems odd to see a man try so hard.

I hate shopping so I definitely don't wonder around stores I go in get what I came for and get out. I honestly don't talk to my mom (personal reasons) and I have 2 pairs of shoes..
