Girls, "PROMposal" in private or public?

I'm just wondering if you prefer to be asked by a guy to prom in public infont of a good amount of people and it's all cute (flowers and other creative but corny stuff) or do you prefer to be asked in private just the two of you.
And if it is in private, should a guy just ask her straight up?
(Let's say the guy and girl know each other well and are good friends)

As a general rule-it is always better to ask in private. You can be cute about it, but go private.

Well I was never asked to prom but I would of liked a guy to ask me straight up in private.
