Average/unattractive girl with a 'hot guy'... do people tend look at them funny?

I read this comment on this forum (2 years old):
''let's face it when a girl is with a less attractive guy no one looks twice unless he looks like shrek next to her. when a girl is with a really handsome guy and she's not as good looking we all know people may look at them funny.''

How true do you think this is? I was on the train and #nohomo... he wasn't a model but a 8-9/10 looking guy who was also tall and looked like a 'nice' guy (aka not street/thugish) was with a pretty average looking girl. I personally didn't think much of it... but I did notice a few women look at them both... and not in a standard glance it was sort of a glare of confusion (Assuming they found him attractive and were a bit jealous or just found it bullshit).
Do any of you ladies or guys have any experiences where you were with a somewhat significantly better looking so and people were giving you off looks?

I saw couples like this. To be brutally honest I reacted like this:
The first 2 seconds in my mind: "Ah his sister? Friend? W.. wait omg they kissed? How the f**k did she get a guy like that? I look so much better and yet he most definitely is out of my league. What witchery is this? Is he blind?"
And then I immediately felt ashamed of how pathetic and shallow my initial thoughts were and apologize silently. I the end I felt happy for them and seeing them made me have hope that nice girls who aren't a 10 can make hot guys like him fall for them too if they are really great.

Thats the thing I have horrible judgements/opinions in my head... but I do ''tell myself off'' for it (in my head aswell... I'm not a nutcase :D). Some people just take what they think as facts and 'ok'... those are the bad people.

I dont know, guys are more attracted to the physical , so though possible i dont think it'd be very common but good for them, they found love. and jelly bitches be jelly. Case closed <(^-^)/

That's how people joke about it. So bhad... Sometimes people can be really that nasty.

Yh that's what i mean... there are more women considered very attractive or attractive apparently... so if hot guy isn't dating a hot girl... people seem to notice it more.

I think couples in wildly different leagues get strange looks both guys and girls. I see it on the train sometimes too and definitely double-take.

I mean people will really judge hard it the guy was way shorter than her
