Girl's Behavior

My ex-boyfriend said our personalities aren't compatible but on a deeper level...we have a bond.

So my ex-boyfriend called last night and he hasn't talked to me in a couple of weeks. Last time we talked, he said we aren't compatible because he wasn't really the kind of person I thought he was. He said he was "forcing" himself to be something he wasn't. Now he calls himself a free bird and said that he wants to be alone for the rest of his life and just do whatever he pleases. He said I am all grown up and he never wants to grow up. WTF..is he like Peter f***ing Pan now or what? I asked him if he ever loved me and he said yes. He said he still has love for me. He believes I do better when I am not with him and that this "is for the best". He said I am too "sweet" for him. It is like he doesn't think he is good enough for me or something. And he admits to being torn but says he has to "keep himself in check". I just don't understand how he could spend almost 5 YEARS with me and talk the whole time about me being his soul mate or whatever and now he is like a totally different person. It is almost like he has hardened his heart and become a jerk on purpose. Why? I know there isn't anyone else. He just goes out and socializes and gets drunk with his guy friends. Is he on some soul searching journey or what? I mean, why would he keep talking to me and jumping all over if he wasn't confused. Why doesn't he want to be with me?
