Why does this girl invite me to several group hangouts but barely talks to me alone?

A girl invites me to hangout with a group of classmates a few times. Arcade, eat out, party at a house, etc. When it ends up where it's just the two of us standing next to each other, she is quiet until someone from the group joins us again. Then, she becomes talkative talking to everyone, including me.

She is only talkative when we are both in the group. But if it's just the two of us alone, she is quiet.

Does she have a close friend she pushes towards you? Maybe it's a wingman situation! OR the group of friends like you and they enjoy you in their group! OR! she's nervous and just not too sure how to talk to you alone! Have you tried inviting her out just you and her?

No, we both share the same friends. The other girls in our group have boyfriends. But I noticed that when she talks to other guys one-on-one in class or in our group, she is very friendly and comfortable. She'll say hi when we pass each other in class or some small talk but that's it.

Can't ask her out yet since she is a classmate for the same class all year.

I don't want to make things awkward if I get rejected early on since I see her everyday.

She might feel intimated by you. Try to make small talk when you guys are alone and make her feel comfortable (as in don't bring up sensitive subjects and don't mess with her) Then she should be more open to talk to you if that's the case.

I make small talk with her alone sometimes outside of group hangouts. I noticed she is more serious/quiet when talking to me and I always start the convo... Just gotta keep talking to her.
