My daughter got into a fight with a group of bullies, not sure how to react?

My 8 year old daughter can be very angry like any child, but she has never beat anyone. Recently she told me that some classmates were annoying her at school, and she did not know how to handle the situation and I said: “Just because they are older then you, doesn’t mean they can bully you.” “but the two are much bigger than me.” “I bet their balls aren’t” and we both laughed. The next day, the school called telling me that my daughter had gotten into a fight with two boys, from what I understand one of the boys was saying something to her and she kicked his genitals, causing him to fall to the ground. She kicked his hands away from his groin and stomped on his privates, at which point the second boy tried to separate the two. Then she grabbed the second boy’s testicles and squeezed, which I taught her to do in case a stranger ever tried to assault her. A teacher had to literally pry her hands off of the poor boy’s testicles, since I told her to never let go until she felt them give (which fortunately never happened, although the boy was sent to the hospital). I don’t know what to do. Obviously teaching my daughter self-defense is important, but how can I teach her that she can’t use these techniques in mild situations such as these?

Obviously self-defense is important, but having only last-option maneuvers as the only weapons in the arsenal is just as dangerous as giving kids combat-knives as their only means of self-defense. She should have more means with varying capacities, so she can choose the most appropriate.

Acknowledge to her your mistake; warn her to use that in extreme situations when her life, health, and well-being are in danger; and have her train in a martial-art or (at least) take a self-defense classes.

An important principle in martial-arts is proportional use of force. Disproportional use encourages serious retaliation and the initiation of violence should only be done when you're prepared for the attacked to impose it back on you.

This is in no way a justification of the bullies. (I was bullied by a gang of classmates myself back in grade-school, even after transferring to another school, though by a different bully & his followers.) But violence is a path laden with thorns, whose wounds no one is exempt (even the winner, especially in the litigious U. S.). Should ever violence is used, proportional is most justifiable, especially if the defender has repeatedly, audibly, and very obviously to all possible witnesses in viewing-range indicated no desire to fight.

Also, to avoid future school-implemented penalties and/or possible litigation by future bully's parents, finding solutions within the school-system may be most favorable (as the primary means with the martial-arts training a reliable back-up).

Instruct her to (when memory/impact of this event has died-down) genuinely befriend her teachers and become a kind, lovable-type student faculty & staff generally will want to protect. Personally, I've found having friends-in-high-places (plus self-improvement & my accidental info-leak giving me a reputation as a registered black-belt) eliminated bullying and provided additional benefits… all while breaking my high-school's record of having EACH & EVERY student visit the principle's office ≥1x before graduation, while earning faculty-commendations (an award only via unanimous vote) 2x.

Sounds like you got yourself a winner! Life rewards aggressors, they probably won't be bullying her anymore.

It's not how "mild" the situation is better when you will get in trouble from doing it. There's nothing wrong with kick-assing, but going to court or getting suspended for it kind of sucks.

Poor boys! You should have her apologize to them. Just because they 'annoy' her doesn't mean they deserve to get their testicles stomped on and squeezed (ouch...).
Explain to her that these tactics are only for when she's in immediate physical danger!
