Girls with eating disorders, what do guys think?

What do guys think about girls with eating disorders who purposely starve, overexercsie etc etc in order to lose weight. (Please keep in mind not all people with ED's are underweight)

If I love her, I would do anything to help her feel better about herself, tell her that it's okay to eat normally, that she looks nice the way she does, that she does not need to inflict herself all of that to look good because she already looks good. I'll be honest though, it would make me worry about her health as I would like her to be as healthy as possible so we can spend more time together and not have health problems affect our lives.

Yes, I would support her all the way. Usually, eating disorders stem from insecurities or people who hurt her in the past. I would do my best to tell her that it's okay to eat normally, that she looks great and that she does not need to worry about me rejecting her for that. I love her so, even if her weight would change, I would still be fine with it. Besides, eating normally will not make her fat either so I would do everything I can to support her and to show her that she does not need to restrict herself like that.

As someone who has an eating disorder I can tell you that the one thing we need is for someone who can stick by our side and tell us we are being irrational but still love us when we get mad. You seen to already understand that mostly. But for a lot of couples it can be harder than imagined.

Well, my crush has an eating disorder and I prefer to understand why people behave the way they do instead of judging them for it. I would not put it as simply being irrational because eating disorder can be more complex than that. I would rather try to make her see that all of this comes from insecurities and emotional wounds. The problem is not about eating itself, it's about these wounds themselves and that we can work together on healing these wounds. I'm not 100% sure about how to heal these wounds but learning to accept that you are fine the way you look can help a lot in my opinion, understanding that eating normally won't make you fat and your desire to get slimmer or to not get fat comes from these wounds from the past and it's not what your inner child really wants.

I think that they need help. It's a very unhealthy affliction and will often lead to long term health problems. You need to be really careful how you treat your body when you're young enough to get away with it, because what you do comes back to haunt you when later.
