What does a guy mean by a goodnight text?

This is probably a dumb question but oh well. We were texting on and off for a couple of hours then I texted him I was going to bed. He replied goodnight! :) What does that mean? IS it just a friendly thing or an interested thing?

I’d say friendly thing because you said you’re going to sleep and that really is the only polite and logical thing to say. If he was interested he’d text good night without you telling him you’re going to sleep.

It's a goodnight thing, don't overthink it. Everything doesn't have some 'meaning' behind it.

If I text a girl good night I definitely want her to imagine me standing by her bed saying good night her. I want her to picture that image even if just for a second. I want her to picture that because usually I want it to really happen
