High school crush accepts fb friend request I sent her over 2 years ago, haven't talked or seen each other in 8+ years. What does it mean?

So I had a crush on this girl about 11 years ago in high school and I was too shy to tell her and nothing ever happened, something that I still regret to this day. She was a great girl and someone that I cared for, but there were some things that I did back then that made her upset and I really wanted to fix it, unfortunately I never got the chance to. Over the years I've tried reaching out to her several times and she ignored everything. A couple of years ago, I decided to try one last shot and sent her a fb friend request and a pm, to which neither were responded to. After this was when I officially threw in the towel of ever trying to contact her again and moved on with my life. Well very recently she randomly accepted my friend request that I sent all those years ago and I was and still am in absolute shock.

I honestly don't know what to think of it, I'm planning on messaging her soon, but if anyone has experienced or done this before what could possibly be her reasoning for it?

She may have only seen it recently.

I know it’s none of my business but, please move on. You’re only thinking about her because you never got closure.

If she really wanted to sort things out she would have reached out to you.

Appreciate the opinion! I can say for a fact that I will never fully get over her, but I am at a point where the thought of her no longer affects my life or relationships in a negative way. There was a time period where I was obsessively thinking about her and no matter what I did I couldnt get her out of my head, but I'm happy to say that now those thoughts are very few and far between and I've done by best to accept what happened. However up until when she accepted my friend request I basically accepted that I was never going to talk or see her again, but now, even if it's the smallest of chance, I'm gonna try to see if there is any possibility of reconnecting or getting some real closure to this! Im not getting my hopes up too high but I think it's worth a shot, I can say for certain though that I will be fine if nothing happens!

Maybe she just now saw the request.
Maybe you are mutual friends with one of her friends and she went to add you and realized you already sent the request so she accepted it. Those are the two most likely reasons.

Also she might be willing go reconnect now that it has been a few years. She could have never seen your PM as well. Was it read? I think she might be willing to talk again but maybe give it a few days before you reach out and see if she reaches out first.

Thanks for the reply! That could be but pretty much she's acted like she didn't want anything to do with me so her accepting my friend request was quite surprising. I never saw a read receipt so I doubt she ever read the first message but I was considering on waiting a bit before trying to talk again. It would be something if she messaged me first!

Thanks for that, I'd like to think so haha! And yes a few weeks ago I did send her what I thought was a great message to hopefully start a conversation and her response basically, without directly saying it, said she was not at all interested in talking. I haven't messaged her back since and we are still friends on FB but yeah that's about it, don't think I will try anything more. Appreciate you asking though!
