I am in a similar position as you. Your friends are definitely not lying to you. I also have plenty of girls (only those already attached) and women who would tell me the same thing.

These girls are trying to make a good impression and are afraid of being judged by you, so they avoid approaching you (unless it's something important), hoping that you would approach them instead. Think of it as pretending to be a nice girl xD

I only ever had 2 girls approached me, but these were the extremely confident types who have long lines of guys chasing them.
