I will give you the female prospective based on my own experience and tell you, the reason why these women are engaging with you openly Is because they figure since you show any signs of interest you are not going to hit on them or make forward and inappropriate comments. Therefore, they can relax and talk to you and be as comfortable as possible with that since you aren't staring them down or flirting with them or following them around. You are pretty much "safe territory" and they can say, do or dress however they want around you because you don't show the slightest bit of interest.
This does not work on me I have to much pride for my own good, and actually won’t exist anymore to a guy if he acts like I don’t exist. I think if she likes the chase and/or has insecurities or certain attachment styles that would work on her.
I think it´s not ignoring but that you don´t see desperate now. Of course I don´t know how you were trying to talk to girls to "make things happen", but this expression makes it sound like you were trying too hard. And now that you "stopped caring" if things will happen or not make it seem more relaxed and I think you seem more confident, sure of yourself and attractive.
There’s nothing attractive about a man who doesn’t act interested or ignores their woman or women who are attracted. I want your undivided attention, for you to talk to me, not act as if I don’t exist. It’s a huge turn off for me, and I’ll quickly lose interest.
