As everyone else said, he's most likely trying to find out if he's your type. The second most likely thing is that he is trying to find out if you're the type to get with his friend.

If it's none of these, then I would assume you two were already friends and he is just curious.

People ask me this all the time...and its always the ones that constantly text you or compliment you a lot. I'd say he likes you and he wants to know if he's your type or not so he can tell if he has any chance of being with you.
