Would you find it strange if someone compliments you on your scent?

Question

I work at a checkout counter where i meet a lot of people every day.
And also walk home and talk to people along the way.
And i have a very fine sense of smell and hearing.
Many times when a woman comes in to pay/order/pick up stuff i can smell their scent/perfume /cologne.
And today i told this 1 woman that she smelled really nice.
And a while back i asked the one guy which brand of cologne he wore b. c it smelled great.
The woman said "it is very creepy to say something like that."
And the guy said "i don't swing that way."
But i dont mean it as creepy or anything.
I just feel that if someone smells nice to compliment them.
I love it when people notice my cologne.
So why is it strange to compliment someone on their scent.
Even if it is from soap or shampoo or perfume or just their regular scent?

Guys are not allowed to compliment ANYTHING that might be in any possible way construed as remotely sexual. You may have not meant it that way but clearly these 2 goofballs took it that way.

My advice to you. Continue to give the compliments because it's a nice thing to do and simply laugh at the ones who misconstrued it to mean more then it does. Or simply stop giving out comments to ANYONE.

Personally I'd keep doing it. Because I'm not going to deny the world warm fuzziness simply because there are a few broken people in this world that don't like it. But you do what you like man. 🙂

I've been told I smell nice by female friends/relatives and thought it was nice of them to say. I've also told female friends/relatives they smell good and always get a, "aww, thank you"! A couple times I've had a stranger (female) casually say I smell good and I thought it was nice to hear. I've never told someone I didn't know and certainly would never tell a man that they "smell good" and I've never had a man tell me that I smell good. It wouldn't necessarily feel creepy but would be a little awkward to hear.

I am constantly complimenting people that smell great. I think it's one of the highest compliments you can give because that person put some effort into making sure that they smelled good or their scent was memorable. I can see no reason why someone would take offense to that. I mean, would you rather I said you smell awful!

I love it when I get the compliment too. I had a friend borrow my jacket, and literally told me, that they didn't want to take it off because whatever scent I was wearing smelled so good in the jacket. I loved that!

No, if anything it's quite flattering! At least where I live, it's common for people to compliment you if you smell nice!
I have had random women at the grocery store stop and ask me what I'm wearing... and I don't mind telling them, nor does it bother me.

I guess it depends on your location as well. People here tend to be more laid back and friendly compared to other regions.

No, not at all. Sometimes it’s a little weird when I don’t think I smell all that great. Like if I’m out from the gym or whatever and some middle aged chick comes up and says some shit like “can I have you in a candle, daddy?”

These people are either too uptight or.. Okay no that's it, I've been given compliments on my scent and asked by dudes what it is obviously for them to buy one for themselves, if it's a woman I reply with something cocky then a thank you if I took it too far with the cockiness, with dudes that's a good conversation topic I could literally talk about this shit for 15 mins, so I'm fine with it

Depends on the context and who said it. Been complimented on my scent both natural and cologne before, namely the girlfriend is the one who does it. Never had a guy compliment it, namely been women.

It shouldn't be? I love being complimented on smelling nice. I guess we all have different opinions on it, and to some it might come across as too personal or intimate for a stranger to comment on.

Sick people thinks sick. Nice people thinks nice. There is a disadvantage of learning dating and judging people. And you just got hit with two of the bad but exact examples of what I am trying to say. If know something we can't let it pass by bias. Many times many nice things can come across as odd behaviors.

I think complimenting someone’s scent is a nice. I always notice a man’s scent if it someone I’m interested in. I don’t find anything creepy about just simply saying someone smells nice.
