Why do men think they have a say in a woman getting an abortion or not?

b) They don't have to go through the rigors of childbirth & potential risk
c) They don't have to deal with the hormonal imbalances, etc.

d) If something happens & the relationship fails they don't have to pay anything unless "forced to" (as the losers among men refer to it) via child support

e) If something happens & the relationship fails they don't have to deal with the harassing behavior of others about being a single mother raising a child, etc., etc.

I've never been pregnant & am not involved with a guy who is likely to leave.

But I am very curious about why men think they deserve a say in if a woman gets an abortion or not when they are experience the LEAST - or no - negative repeccusions of pregnancy.

The reason is simple it takes two to tango. Both consenting adults (not talking about cases of rape/incest) know what their actions can cause and so both should have a say in it. Now to tackle your points.

a, b, and c) While it’s true that men don’t carry the child for 9 months. Most fathers who stay take care of the pregnant soon to be mother. Attending to her needs and being there for her, basically taking over her role in the household. During those 9 months, most men are usually doing double the work with no complains all the while taking care of their pregnant spouse/girlfriend/friend. Now I’m not saying that one is more difficult it’s just that they both have different things they must do. Also I’m pretty sure most men if they could would take away the pain from labor but they can’t. It’s just not biologically possible so why shame someone because they can’t do something.

d and e) Just to add this can go both ways. A women can leave the child with the father. So I don’t really see your point. Also men deal with the harassing behavior to. For example people can become suspicious that it’s not his child and can believe the man is trying to kidnap the kid.

Lastly, half of the kid is his. He has a say because it’s his sperm which helped make the kid. Why take away his voice, it may be your body but it’s not your choice. Remember a part of him is growing inside you it’s no longer just your body. Hope this helps you understood a different viewpoint!

But all men who are willing to be attentive during pregnancy and raise the child (through personal effort - time and money) should be allowed to play a considerable role into the woman/women arriving at their choice. Regardless of any of that, a fetus is effectively a parasite to it's mother, this puts the mother's health at risk while it develops, so it should be a choice.

Very Odd, 52 years ago I was assigned a position on a debate team. I did not even have the option of which side of the debate I was to support. The debate was abortion and the arguments have never changed. At what point in the development of the fetus is the soul inserted? When does it become a viable human able to sustain life with minimal help? Is this murder?,,,,,,,, I am 72 years old now and the answer is even more difficult to explain. I am a retired PA in the field of anatomic and surgical pathology. I have had to help perform autopsies on abused kids and I have had to process aborted fetuses submitted as surgical specimens. It is not easy to open a plastic specimen container and see body parts that have been torn to pieces by a strong vacuum. It does not come out intact. My father told me that sex was not as casual as shaking hands and that it comes with responsibilities. Don't enter the Gates of Pleasure if you are not ready for the outcome no matter what. I know times have changed. Maybe attitudes need to change as well

What I am saying is, I see men jusging women as killers for abortion and then saying they would pay and encourage abortion if the pregnancy occurred through the ways that they deem is inappropriate.

2) It takes two people to create a baby, no matter how much technology advances. That baby you carry in you has my DNA, too. I was curious enough, nine months ago, to calculate the relative time spent 'making a baby'. Lets assume it took the guy 5 minutes to build up to ejaculating. Full term is 38 weeks or 266 days or 6,384 hours or 76,608 5 min slots. Taking the reciprocal and multiplying by 100 for %ages gives a male time investment of 0.0013% of the female time investment in 'making a baby'.

So it has to be conceded the female investment is greater.

Nonetheless there are moral quandaries. On one side of the sheet of paper the guys baby is being killed. On the other side the guy doesn't get a say in the pregnancy going full term.

A thought occurred to me this morning. If a guy really wanted kids in the US, I assume that he could arrange for a surrogate mother to birth his child. Then hire a nanny while he went to work. In that case he could not he lose his kids as sole parent, nor lose his house and other assets.

How would that work out in the US financially?

Certainly for sex, the pay as you go plan is financially better compared to the pay at end (divorce) plan. So if a guy wants kids a surrogate mom might be the go. If he doesn't then he can just take the pay as you go plan.

I believe in abortion rights, no argument against it, but this line of thought really damages the ideas perspective.

Society as a whole forms opinions and makes decisions for others in topics that will never ever affect them all the time.

Much of the results of voting, taxes, and the results of public opinion result in whatever given issue being moved in one way or another, when only maybe 5% who contributed to it REALLY know what it means.

Everyone should try to be more educated on what they contribute to, but it doesn't change the fact that policy decisions can't be made by half the society, split down the middle. My position: before 18 weeks, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest the fetus is in any way what we would classify as ‘alive’ (which, for anyone about to make the heartbeat argument, is now based on brain activity), nor could it have any chance of survival outside the womb. Its about genders having good morals on a certain issues, regardless of status, gender, wealth. Just cause you are women, and has actually has the baby, doesn't mean you are more morally right than a man that can't have babies.

Morals shouldn't be about what you can or can't do life, it should be about you have a good moral compass, towards others and animals.

No. It's a new body formed from both man and woman, and she can do whatever she wants with HER body, but not with the newly developing body. There needs to be rules on how abortion is allowed just like we need rules on capital punishment, prison, etc. It can't just be a free for all because too many women are ridiculously irresponsible. Unfortunately a few bad apples spoil the bunch, and we need to make rules or some women will continue to use abortion as if it's just another form of birth control. I don't care if it's women who make the rules for other women. We just need rules for this shit!

I think the only thing we disagree on is probably when personhood is assigned or how we assign it in the first place. Everything else I agree. I think their should be a line drawn as to when abortion is viable. I don't think women should be able to have an abortion whenever they want. I also agree that it affects both people emotionally and probably physically for the woman.
