Is it out of the norm for women to eat by themselves at restaurants?

I constantly see men by themselves order food or drinks, but when a lady sits by themselves it’s not as common. Also I tend to see more older people sitting a lone than young folks.

I ate at a restaurant cuz it’s my bucket-list to do things by myself like going to the movies, shopping, etc. my waiter was a dude who was asking questions about why i am alone and if I’m okay lol 💀 we had nice talks about where we were from and stuff so thats nice.

I agree that it's far more common for men to eat alone than women.

I ate out a lot most of my life. Usually every day, and commonly twice a day. Most of the time I went alone. For me, going out to eat was "me time". It was time to just relax and read a book. I usually noticed if a woman was alone because it's not as common.

It was common for the server to pass me by when they were checking on other tables. I could see them slow and hesitate when they saw me reading a book. I think they didn't want to disturb me. Since I ate out so much, I knew a lot of the servers. They'd usually stop and chat. But the new ones tended to pass me by when I was reading.

Women seem to be reluctant to eat by themselves or go to movies by themselves. It is not as if they can't, they just don't like to in general is my take.

I have been asked to sit with a woman while she ate so she wasn't on her own.

In contrast I like eating by myself and prefer to concentrate on the food without conversation distracting.

It is out of the norm for women to eat by themselves because they don't seem to like it. God knows what stops them. Maybe they think it will look like nobody likes them.

Likely not the norm. But the few times i choose to eat alone, I hate that they place me at a bar. I want a table. And if i get a table, then its always several waiters trying to tend to me back and forth because ALL of them are trying to get tipped, not just one. Thats pretty annoying too

I hate bar stools. I'd walk out if there were free tables and they wanted me to sit at the bar. Usually I just ignore any "Wait to be Seated" and plonk myself down where I like.

It’s not as common for women because they either have a boyfriend or friends to go out with. Not like men where most of us are single and have less friends when older, I’m tired of doing everything alone

All true. So ig its weird for a young girl to eat alone bc the hostessss were looking at me oddly when i said 1 table. Then my male waiter was comforting me like a therapist 💀

Last I checked, even single women need to eat. But since women tend to have better-developed social networks and don't have the stigma of implied romantic/sexual interest if they're out with someone, they're probably less likely to be alone. And since they get significantly more empathy, people NOTICE if they are.

Strange Bucket list you have. I love going to the movies alone , reason being I love the movies , and I like to make spur of the moment decisions , some of these have been so good , another person , they talk me out of instinct , and I end up watching some thing I don't want , plus I despise popcorn , I don't want to see it or smell it , or feel it..

Women , on their own , you are correct of course this should be acceptable , out of the norm? Probably.

It might be. But as long as you're enjoying your time eating by yourself and the food is good, I see nothing wrong with it. For me I like eating dinner with other people. Helps me slow down and enjoy my meal a lot better.

I work in D. C. I see single women eating alone all the time. With less frequency married women, but they are doing it as well.

IMHO, you need to earn a bucket list.
You seem smart. I’m sure you’re on your way. At your age and with your brains, you might never need one. You might be able to achieve everything that you could hope for and not need a bucket list.
I’m not projecting anything negative to you. I’m not better than you. I’m just years ahead. By the time you get to my age you will probably have surpassed me in many areas.
It struck me as odd that one of your tender age would already have a bucket list.
