What Girls & Guys Said

A lot of women are made to feel by media that, if they're not drop dead gorgeous, then they're pretty much ugly by default. Like any little flaw will be seen by a man and they'll be immediately disregarded. It's not true, but insecurity is difficult to combat once it's already weaseled its way into their heads. They see celebrities and models, or porn actresses that guys are watching, and they feel like they just can't match that. Which, to be fair, is true a lot of the time. Obviously, a lot of men don't care, but especially on the internet, or in high school when men are young and especially dickish, girls hear a lot of guys fetishizing extremely unrealistic beauty standards and talking down on any woman who doesn't possess those qualities, and it starts to feel like every man must think like that, the difference is which ones voice it. I'm honestly a little vain, I've never struggled much with insecurity about my looks, but I understand why a lot of girls do.
