I'm mostly a "whatever is going to actually get a response from this person before the next lunar cycle" type of person...

Sometimes that's a phone call (usually an older person; young people hide in their closet until the ringing stops...).

Sometimes it's a text (usually a young person; older people text back something like NOAR FSZFGV BG, SENFO IUS UG!!! That's if they text back at all).

Sometimes I use messenger pigeons. If I'm really mad, I shoot an message arrow into their living room TV... :D

I have to know who I’m trying to contact. If it’s an older person I know I have to call them. Younger people I should only text bc they don’t pick the phone up for any reason (I don't know why). Folks my age get impatient with their readers and after 5-7 txts they pick up the phone…. So both are important.

I know you’re on the younger people side, JJ. Let’s leave it at theory, then, shall we? I’ll share that women in manage group get an actual phone call from our kids (who are all in their 20s-30s now) and we freak out that they’re having an emergency bc we know they don’t call…. But our moms we always have to call bc it’s a challenge for them to read and text back.

I tend to call if there are discussion points, instead of texting things over an hour or two.

If it's just a simple... hey how's it going... then text or do you want to meet up for a brew later... then text at first, but call to make the arrangements.

A phone call is a disruptive activity, requiring the recipient to drop what they are doing and answer the call. A text, on the other hand, can be read (and replied to, if desired) by the recipient at their convenience, it's only disruptive if the recipient chooses to make it that.

I don't like to be interrupted and I also don't like disrupting others. I prefer text or email.

I used to be a texting kind of person. Any time someone would call, I'd let it ring, then texted them asking what was up. Nowadays, especially after many cold calls and socializing, I prefer to voice message and call.

I used to refuse to text anyone. Now I've done a complete 180. Now I almost always text. Because you never know what is going on with someone. They might be in the middle of a meeting. Texting allows the person to get back to you at thier convenience.
