It’s very bad, but it’s a sound reflection of gynocentric nature of our society. Only women’s happiness matters, at the expense of men AND children.
I once met a young couple who adopted the modified version, “Happy spouse, happy house!”. I liked them. They didn’t have kids at the time, but i expect they will have a very harmonious relationship and happy, well adjusted kids.

The phrase is meant to refer to the fact that, in a patriarchal society, the happiness of your wife is important because it would be so easy for her to poison you and take your estate while in mourning. Aqua Tofana existed for 3 generations of women for a reason.
