Why is it that girls often start nice, and then ultimately they end up ignoring you?

It happened to me many times, and I am always left in disbelieve. They don't even act on a friendly bases how could they be so cold? What kind of animals are they? I don't act like that towards people I like. And I mean its just a return message we are talking about here to show some most basic respect. But not even that, they ignore the message. And as I said in the question they start nice that's the odd part.

Guys, apparently it was a false alarm! I just can't believe it. She did answer me today in the casual friendly tone that I was expecting. I just don't understand why she would reply to a basic message 2 days later after I almost unfollowed her!

P. S we never dated or anything so it should not be a complicated interaction. And we live in different countries. We are basically on each others' friend list on Insta. We only met by coincidence while on vacation.

I don't think so. As in I did not do anything to insult them. Especially this last one on Insta. We are friends I thought, but apparently not that much from her side. I was just telling her what happened to me when I was on vacation and after a day or so she saw the message but then she just ignored it. She did answer to my first 2 messages. I just don't get it. Well I mean its clear, she is telling me that she does not care about me that much. When I thought that she would be happy that I texted her. I was on the verge of unfollowing her completely, but I decided to just delete the entire message thread and treat her in the same way. Now I know that she doesn't care and if I don't text her she won't.

Could be. I just don't understand how sophisticated or intelligent one needs to be to figure out why though, because I just can't figure it out. Maybe I try to remain attached after things have moved on perhaps. But this particular girl I have in mind I don't flood her with messages or stuff. From time to time I tend to send her a message. This last one she answered the first and then ignored the second. I mean is it that much that I was asking for.
