Is it true that women are more insecure undressing in locker rooms?

for quite a while I've heard a lot of women claiming that one of the reasons why they hate going to the gym is because they feel weird and uncomfortable getting undressed in the locker room.

I find this kinda weird because I been hitting the gym since my freshment year in high school and one thing for sure we men never hesitate to undress in the locker room. a lot of us have even gone as far as greeting and talking to one another as we undressed or dress up to get ready.

I really thought we men were more homophobic than women were. in fact my mom used to be a female underwear and lingerie retailer when I was a kid and a lot of her customers used to get fully undressed among one another to try on the merchandise and none of them ever put qualms.

So when I was younger, I really didn't like dressing rooms because I was insecure. Especially when I was a teenager. Puberty is so tough when you are a girl. Constantly comparing yourself to others. I'm sure it's awkward for guys too, but I'm speaking from my experience. I still don't like locker rooms, but it's mostly because of the smell and bad lighting.

For the most part women have a larger variety in body types than men. Different breast, asses, etc. While men look different, there's a lot more uniformity in their bodies. I think people always compare themselves to others. For women who feel inadequate sexually due to boobs, ass, fat, etc. another woman who they feel is more physically attractive seeing them can be very uncomfortable.

The women I've known were never afraid to undress in front of people. My sister in law will undress to a bra and panties in front of me! When my roommates had girlfriends, they'd walk around in the same attire at times.

From my experience, most women would just undressed infront of me lol. There are the small percentage who does not feel comfortable to do that though. I think it's fine either way as long as they're comfortable.

No offense intended — reading your message reminded me of something strange that’s been happening in my daily life here.
I’ve been living at my aunt’s house in Las Vegas for almost a year now. My aunt (around 40), her daughters (12–16), and even her mother (60–65) are all extremely open and casual about everything. One thing I noticed right away: nobody locks the bathroom door — whether they’re showering, peeing, or pooping.

It’s gotten worse: I’ve secretly recorded short videos of them peeing or showering on my phone, and later watch them to masturbate. Once I even awkwardly asked my aunt why the girls pee so loudly (strong hissing noise). She just burst out laughing really hard and didn’t answer.
The scary part is that secretly masturbating to their naked bodies and bathroom moments has now become a daily habit. I can’t stop, and I can’t tell anyone about it either.

I think many would feel intimated especially if they are out of shape as there are some great bodies in the gym , plus with women you have breast size and shape , plus other stuff..

Honestly it's not insecure when iam in my undergarments and only change outer clothes like Jean t shirt but when fully naked i mean change bra etc feel awkward and insecure

It has nothing to do with homophobia or sex. It has to do with body insecurities and shyness. Feeling uncomfortable exposing your body to other people.

I played sports from the time I started school and stayed in a hostel with open showers. Everyone that was there was comfortable. Only a few girls were like super shy

I was, mostly because I was bullied a lot, and I mean physically... Got to the point where I would wear long sleeves to cover bruises and cuts.

I even avoided taking showers after Gym class
