A shit take is following.

How can you talk about "safe, respectful, and high-quality environment", and then ban minors because it's not a safe enough, respectful high quality environment? Are are you trying to protect adults from annoying kids?

Everyone, except minors. Instead of coming up with a proper solution like age restricting only the sexual topic, fixing broken moderation or something else, you take again the lazy route and just make the site more shit (or in this case, unusable) for some people. It's obvious that this site is on life support and that the owners have no interest in investing any money or effort into changing anything on here to the better.

Minors will just put a fake age. This doesn't really change anything other than you can pretend that you did something.

@Levin exactly. Limit PMs, access to certain topics, interaction with anons etc.
You can make the site safe and fun to use for everyone. But that would take a minimum amount of effort and caring for the site and it's userbase, which they obviously don't have. So they just put an 18+ tag on the site and call it a day... One problem less for them to worry about. They couldn't care less what people on here think or want.

To be fair, I get it. They just don't want the headache.

But tbh, I'm pretty liberal. Young people need the knowledge and they'll just find it through alternative means anyway. Many are sexually active before the age of 16. I remember once having my post removed for posting an answer on an under 18's sexuality question. I just found that so odd. So is that a rule? Over 18 can't answer on under 18's question; and then I guess by the same logic, under 18's should not post on questions of over 18's. The site doesn't make a lot of sense. I think it's more the connotation of 'older man' = bad intentions, always.

But personally, I think the younger people have always added a lot to this site, and in many cases, have more maturity than the older people.

@Levin I tend to agree. I don't think many minors are asking their parents about sex. Their friends are often clueless. So that leaves online forums or porn, and frankly online forums are safer.

Full of feel-good phrases, but no real explanation of what will actually change instead of fixing moderation, spam, and fake profiles, you just changed the age rule. 18+ rule is a shortcut, not a solution. Banning younger users doesn’t fix toxicity it just shifts responsibility away.

GirlsAskGuys claims to be for “everyone,” but excludes a major portion of its original audience.

No transparency about future plans. No roadmap, no features, no improvements.

Accounts will be terminated sounds forceful, not community-friendly.

Risks losing core user base. Younger users drive activity removing them could reduce engagement significantly.

Feels reactive, not strategic. Looks like a quick fix under pressure rather than a well-thought-out long-term plan.

The current direction of GirlsAskGuys doesn’t really match the original mission set by @tolga Tanrıseven. The platform was initially built to encourage open, honest conversations between genders and help people understand each other better through diverse participation, especially from younger users.

I always worried about the children under 18 reading some of the smut in the Sexuality topic, and numerous other topics.

I think that some people weren't aware that there are children on this website and sometimes I would remind them of that when they would write ✍🏼 inappropriate words and comments.

It's like a breath of fresh air that members suggestions mattered for once and that appropriate action was taken.

We need to be heard a lot more though, but continue to be ignored when really great suggestions are brought to the GaG Community'sattention.

This app is dying. It's sad. It used to be a platform to speak freely. Whenever I saw a question from a minor, I was always happy to give my 2 cents. But now it's becoming less organic with AI and taking part in cancel culture (censoring, removing posts entirely, and banning minors).

I have no issue with AI running things as long as it doesn't moderate strictly and allows freedom of speech. But that does not seem like it will be the case.

I'm leaving if this gets any worse. And the ban won't do anything. Kids will just fake their ages anyways. It's a stupid update.

The legal age in each country varies. Arbitrarily choosing 18, with America most in mind can't be for legal reasons. Someone just picked a number and there's no new law that got passed yesterday. If it was a legal issue, it would have been a problem this whole time.

@criminallyinsane Governments have being getting harsher with online access... this has been a thing for sometime across several countries especially US, UK, EU and whatever you'd consider the most influential which those are.
So it's for sure due to legal reasons. Otherwise many companies wouldn't care and have no restrictions cause ya know less effort and more profit.

The point is the criteria to keep a safe environment for kids if you allow kids on your site is much higher threshold and legal nightmare. If you make it adults only and kids ignore that, thats a problem for parents not GaG admins
