Why did my crush wait to follow me back?

I followed my crush 3 weeks ago and he didn't request to follow me until last night. Is there a reason for that? He has posted like four times after I followed him so it wasn't like he hasn't been on Instagram.
Before you even think of saying something rude, I am an overthinker and I just think there must be some reason he didn't follow me for three weeks.

He probably had gotten a whole bunch of notifications after that and hadn't seen you. It happens to me often, especially when I post a new picture within that time and don't really check my notifications. The more people like the picture, the more likely his "friend request" notification bumps down and he may just skip over it. Or he doesn't take it so seriously and doesn't think its a big deal. You really shouldn't put too much thought on social media. I think its better you hang out with him face to face than focus on what his instagram is about :)
