My crush didn’t follow me back. Should I be worried?

So i have a crush on a guy since July and I think (maybe thought, i’m having doubts) that he likes me. We don’t see each other often as we live in different towns. I thought he was interested because I noticed him looking at me and any time we would talk or he knew i was looking at him he would get really awkward. like moving his eyes to the side and back kinda like a little boy would do. he is always very polite to me (holds door, asks how i am) and some of my family have said they notice him looking at me. I found his social media pages a few months ago but never followed him as he was public and didn’t feel like we knew each other well enough. Well i saw him over Christmas and we had a few interactions so i got up the nerve to follow him instagram which i thought would be open up a line of communication and i thought it would make a point to him since his page is public. well it’s been a few days (5) and he hasn’t followed me back. my page is private so i thought he would request to follow me. i am well aware that i shouldn’t define a relationship based on instagram but now i’m doubting myself. also i for sure thought he would follow me back since from what i’ve noticed he follows back almost all of his followers. any advice or input would be nice.

Well I think he likes you since you stated many reasons indicating that. The thing is falling in love with someone and to like someone are two different things. If I was him and fell in love with you, I would follow you back.
On the other hand, you said he is a nice guy so he might not has the same feelings towards you like you have and trying to show you that in a kind way. In that case, he might be trying to say you are my friend and I don't see you as my girlfriend...

Feel there is a chance that he could just be playing you. Maybe, you need to make a move on him.

he seems like he is shy and i think he might have very little or if any experience with girls that he might be nervous. could he be so shy that he doesn’t want to follow me back. that wouldn’t really make sense as it would be easier for us to talk over social media...

Forgive me being naive about Instagram. But one would think that if your page is private that you would have to physically invite him and he would have to accept the request

no, on a private account the person who wants to follow a private account presses the follow button and a friend request is sent to the account owner. similar to facebook if you are familiar with that.

I can see myself being in that same situation. So I understand your worries. It is normal to doubt yourself. The prevalence of social media increases self doubt. One thing is for sure. Do not mention it to him. Don't ask why he hasn't followed you.

No nothing to worry about but if you want his follow just honestly ask him and see if he follows back and if he does not that’s okay
