In my country, if you're dark, you're automatically ugly. :(

So does skin color really matter to guys? I know Indian men like fair skin, but what about white or western men? I've decided that I'm going to Europe to do my masters and I'm open to dating outside my race

1. To me skin color or body type doesn't matter as long as she isn't the over clingy types, maintains hygiene, doesn't display traits of insecurity, takes care of herself, knows to live life, is emotional & sensitive while being logical and realistic etc
2. I don't have fixations ever on anything - a conscious decision since long but if specifically asked I prefer dusky women. If you look up 'Nandita Das' and that link you've posted, that girl's hot & her color as well as complexion are alluring
3. I am a tan complexion person myself. I fit the bill of Tall Dark & Handsome in my own way. I remember when in college a few girls who were into 'my parents will choose for me' would say 'He should be FAIR' lol - Hence, TDH etc depends on which race coined it :)
4. Other side of the fence is always greener wasn't coined by a fool :) What is not common is generally alluring.
5. There are lots of men in India, like me who love dusky complexion but your choice is you probably are looking at a Caucasian or Hispanic or similar. Again your choice could be well be influenced by the situation where 'girls should be fair' stuff which has been imbibed since eons and especially by women actually :)

In India, it's tough both ways. Due to the influence of English people colonization in the past, skin color can be an issue there. However, from what I've seen it's far tougher for a darker Indian man to get attention from Indian women than for Indian women to get attention from Indian men. I lived in India for few years and I saw many dark Indian women who were gorgeous but almost all those dark Indian women happened to go out with guys who were either really light skinned or brown skinned like me. I rarely saw any fine dark Indian women going out with another dark Indian guy. And of course, hardly any light or brown skinned Indian girls go out with dark skinned guys. From what I saw, dark Indian girls had much better options than dark Indian guys. So yeah, you can't just say Indian guys are picky when it comes to dark skinned girls without also mentioning that it's just as hard for dark Indian guys, if not even harder for dark Indian guys.

Have you seen the fair & lovely ads where the girl can't find a husband because her skin is too dark? there's no version of that ad for guys.. so yeah, i think dark girls have it worse.. although fair skin is considered beautiful/handsome for both genders, society tends to place more emphasis on a woman's looks.. because sadly, that is what women are most valued for, even in 2014. i have a theory though - maybe the dark girls don't date dark guys because they don't want to have dark children - becauese they don't want thier children to be bullied, or ridiculed, like they were... so maybe that's why they date light skinned men

That's the media and advertising. Try looking at the entire population numbers wise. Numbers wise, darker girls still has a better chance at getting guys than darker guys do with girls. And even if darker girls don't date darker guys to avoid having their future children being ridiculed, how come there aren't just as many opportunities for darker guys to date lighter skinned girls in return? How come lighter skinned girls aren't as open to dating darker skinned guys as much as the lighter skinned guys are in dating darker skinned girls? I mean a mixture of light skinned Indian girls with dark skinned Indian guys wouldn't be as dark yet it's so rare for light skinned girls to date dark skinned guys. It's pretty obvious when you look at the numbers, darker guys in comparison to darker girls are at a bigger disadvantage in India. And fair & lovely is a cream so the ad will obviously target the women to buy rather than men. There aren't many men that actually buy or use cream like women.

Real situation: One of my cousin (28 y. o. Man) in India who works as a territory officer in one of the biggest real estate companies did not get replies to many (80%) marriage proposals the reason being he has a darker skin color, same guys sister (30 y. o.) got positive response from almost 70% proposals. Got married to a fair skinned guy 1.5 years back despite being dark skinned and not as good facial features (No Dowry). Proof enough what's really happening in India. Now as far as the question of kids is concerend than I guess fair skinned guys should also not marry weatish/dark skinned woman after all the kid might get her complexion too so ultimately the kid might have to go through same stuff. So its all media created hype which is creating negative image of Indian man and looking at what Indian woman think I guess media succeded in demeaning Indian man. The buzz is if you wanna sell a product to Indian woman now a days, demean Indian man and it would automatically sell.

I am an Indian male fair skinned and I never look at a girls skin color but yes her facial features matter a lot. In fact I like some Indian models and actress who are not fair skinned like chitrangadha singh. Yea but I agree most people might go for fair skinned. In a country that's developing and mostly uneducated, what do you expect QA? Most of those guys are uneducated and there are many perverted guys in Western countries like UK, US. You are right upto some extent and I do agree that dark skinned people have harder time than the lighter skinned people in dating perspective but facial features matter as well.
