Does my friend with benefits have feelings for me?

I've known my friend with benefits for several months, and we are really close now. For the record, we have never been friends before we started hooking up.
The other day I told him that I have problems with my guy friend, that he started being very possessive over me and he threatens me when he sees me talk to other guys and it scares me.
My friend with benefits seemed really worried, he cussed at him and told me that I shouldn't talk to him anymore.
Last night he went to a bar and met my guy friend there and texted me if he could have a talk with him. I said that Ill be fine and he should've get involved. He started insisting on me cutting the contact with "that fucker" and that he can help me and he will do anything I want.
He seems really insistent about it. He still wants to confront him next time he sees that guy.

Now, does my friend with benefits have feelings for me or does he just care about me as a friend? (Considering we've never been just friends)?

I have been in EXACTLY the same boat as you. I have had a very serious friends with benefits relationship for almost a year now. I mean, it wasn't completely "fwb" if you get what I mean, but we still did sexual things.
At first, I told myself don't ever expect anything more from him because you don't wanna be let down. We weren't really friends before, in fact we were coworkers and he was my first for literally everything. First date, first kiss, etc, etc.
We had an open relationship, but it was more so just him going and flirting with other girls. I didn't mind though because I was exploring my sexuality.

Three months into it he begins getting jealous when other men (even his friends) began checking me out. He'd get jealous when I speak about other guys that were after me and so on. Four months into it he tells me he wants to be more than friends with benefits . He said he quit looking at other girls about a month and a half ago.
Completely his idea, not mine because I told myself don't expect anything more. It was a wonderful surprise and I finally let myself get feelings for him.

It could be either one. Guys tend to be protective of girls they care for. That is sweet! I don't know that it means he wants a relationship with you, necessarily, but he has clearly developed feelings for you. You can never have too many guys in your life that are like him.

He defiantly cares about you and that's a great quality to have. I don't see it as being possessive at all. It's only natural to develop caring feelings toward someone you are close too.

So what if a guy says he wants just no strings attached, helping each other out, scratching an itch, no pretences, etc. But you only have sex with just him and he only with you... if guys eventually fall for their fwbs why even say all that to begin with? I've been sleeping with my guy since 2016 but scattered about because children and other obligations.
