Why do guys always call their friends buddy?

Yes I realize buddy is another word for friend. But why not say friend then? Just curious bc most guys I talk to always say this. They'll be like "yeah, a buddy of mine said that" or "just hanging with my buddy" like it just doesn't seem as normal as saying friend in my opinion... I don't know just curious

I actually y use the term "bro" which is funny cause i have 4 brothers and never call them bro. I use their names or say brother. I usually use the word buddy for persons im not very close too.
