Why my crush stares at me from across the room, but when he's close he pretends he doesn't see me?

Like in the title, he would just glance and stare at me from a distance when he's with his guys, but when he sees me there and is getting closer and then passes by me, he purposely isn't looking at me. Like he stands tall, looks ahead, pretends he's whistling and sometimes he looks like he's holding a smile.
He isn't doing this all the time, often when we're passing by he just stares into my eyes and that's mostly me who looks away.
And we've never talked, we just stare at each other since few months. We smiled at each other few times but we almost always have blank expression.
He doesn't seem too shy and is always talking to someone.

I literally have the same experience as you and I really feel he's 100% likes me. Just a difference is that he would look into my eyes when we're close and smiles but we never talked. I'm going to say hi to him tmr so wish me luck cause this took a lot courage for someone like me who's shy 🙈🙈

Have you considered the possibility that he might be absent-minded when you think he stares at you?

Yes and it's rather clear that he isn't. You know, he turns his head in my direction or glances, looks away, then glances again. So he probably does this intentionally.
