This isn't hard, only a boy would say no. A real man's morality is rooted in these principles regardless of popular opinion.

He's not OBLIGATED to. But if you want to get anywhere with women, you have to at least show that you're able to protect them.

No that's stupid. In this day and age, both men and women are capable of providing for themselves as well as eachother. The man does not have the obligation to protect and provide for the woman.

@sweetlivy I think they have a legal obligation to their families in many cases, even without the double whammy of religion and tradition. But the exactly same standards apply to women just the same. Women are equally obligated to their families and when they fail in that, the law should treat them the same as a man.

Because there is a difference between obligation and willingness to do so. No man is obliged to protect and provide for any random woman. Marriage is a different story. But I would say that most men have a willingness to help out women. Their motivations and expectations of it unfortunately vary.

@Botchie I think you are generally correct. Most men are inherently decent people, and that is why we fall in love with them, because most people I know, know how to sacrifice cheerfully in an interplay of equal exchange when it is needed for the good of the relationship. I am reminded of the old adage, "Would you rather be right? Or would you rather be happy?" and we don't waste our time on petty squabbles over things that don't matter. Like, "are the dishes stacked wrong in the dish drainer a big enough problem that I need to make him feel bad?" And the answer is - no, of course not. Let's save our arguing for something significant and try to get along the rest of the time.

Interesting to note, when I said women have an obligation to support men emotionally and through sexual relations men were unanimous in their upvotes. When I said on this thread men have an obligation to provide for and protect their women it was near unanimous downvotes from men. Pretty much affirms how I view a lot of the men on this website. They want something for nothing.

The bottom line is, in a healthy relationship both partners have obligations to provide for one another. It's that simple, emotional, sexual, safety, financially. Any one that denies those obligations to one another have no concept what a relationship is.
