Why did my crush decline my follow request?

We've known each other for a while now and we talk quite a bit. He knows my name, always smiles a lot, makes physical contact and I sometimes catch him glancing at me. So I requested to follow him thinking he would accept my request but he ended up declining my request :( I'm wondering what would have caused him not to want to add me back. I mean, he's very chill and we get along so I'm confused as to why he wouldn't want to add me online.

He added other people too at the same time he deleted my request so I highly doubt its an accident.
