Why does some guys like to push women's buttons?

I recently met this guy and we are like an old married couple. We bicker but it is because I don't want him to think that he can control me or that he can walk over me. We both have strong personalities and challenge each other, sometimes good and bad. But he presses my buttons, and he cannot say anything nice. When we met he said: "Can you please be quite for 10 minutes?''. We also do avoid each other... I find him attractive. What is going on? I don't even know if we are firends, does he like or dislike me? What is your take on this?
