Suddenly, my boyfriend told me he hates my singing? What do I do?

All my friends (even the people with honest opinions) like my voice and singing. My boyfriend used to say that he likes it too but he now tells me that he doesn't and he kept lying cause he didn't wanna "hurt me". But I'm heartbroken. Singing is something that I've been doing since I was 4. I wrote songs about him too. Now I feel like I shouldn't have wasted my time writing about him.

wow.. sure he's ever genuinely liked your singing? i mean when you love someone sure honesty is a good thing but there is times when tact can be preferable to brutality...
my ex girlfriend used to have a good voice, she could be annoying though with it but i found her voice soothing when she was singing, another ex not so good but the fact she loved to sing and was happy doing it actually made me not care that it was bad cos of how happy she was
sure if she asked me if any good i would say something honest but tactful hell i'd have even asked her if she wanted to take singing lessons to enhance or improve her vocal ranges

I think he probably was feeling bad for seeing you put all that effort into it, and decided not to drag the lie any longer, which is a good thing. Just don't sing to him anymore. If he was polite about it when he said it (as polite as you can be when being so blunt), it was probably just how he felt about lying to you about it. If you have no reason to believe that he doesn't love you, and if you can live with the fact that he doesn't like something that is so important for you, then just continue your relationship without the singing involved. Do you have any singing by you on YouTube or something? I'd like to check it out if so

I dont think you've wasted your time writing about him because it's the thought that counts and you still wrote a song so it doesn't matter if you are good or not at singing it, it's the meaning of the song that matters. Pretty sure he's telling the truth cuz why'd he lie so the only thing you can do is just improve cuz you seem to enjoy singing

Yeah. But his opinion matters to me. He's my boyfriend so it matters. PS I'm so mad at him because of this that I haven't even texted him back in a day. I don't even feel like talking to him anymore. What if he's lying about more things cause he doesn't wanna "hurt me" right now.

I don't think this a reason for break up or to stop talking to him. Are you mad because he was honest and told you that he doesn't like your singing or are you mad because he hid the truth from you to avoid hurting your feelings? You shouldn't me mad at someone for being honest and telling you the truth even if the truth hurts. It's life we learn from it and move on we can't please everyone in the same way. Many years ago my father advised me to give up on my dream because he thought I was not going to be able to reach my goals. I took his advise in consideration because he's my father and his opinion also matters to me the same way your boyfriend's opinions matter to you. What did I do? Pursued my dream and nowadays I have the career I've always wanted to have and been very successful.

He's probably gotten too used to hearing you sing to the point it's unpleasant. It's like my father's whistling to me. I don't have a problem with people whistling but my father CONSTANTLY whistles to the point you'd think there's something wrong with him. So your boyfriend might be going through the same thing
