Is it weird messaging a guy you don't know on Facebook but are interested in? What do guys think?

So I messaged this dude on Facebook messenger who showed up on my people you may know page. As someone who's into music I was curious because on his profile pic it showed that he played the guitar and posts covers. We only have 2 Facebook friends in common and I thought he seemed like an interesting person bc we share and play the same music so I decided to send him a message:

"Hey, I just wanted to introduce myself because Facebook thinks we may know each other but even though that's most likely not the case, I wouldn't mind making more friends that are musicians! You're an amazing guitarist and singer!"

He seemed really cool so I wanted to take the risk and send a message, tho it seems like he isn't on Facebook often and I sent this a week ago, the last thing he updated was in February so I can see. I'm not sure if guys wouldn't mind someone sending a message or how a guy would react cause we don't know each other at all, but would this be seen as weird?

It is neither weird for boys or girls to talk to random people on Facebook or any social media.
If you like each you can at least be decent friends if that affection increased then may be couples.
Seriously people come on, if you don't talk to others you will always be strangers. And last time I check we only know our parents at best when we are born into this world

Yea, I mean people can message who ever they want, for us guys if girl message us its usually some scam. Or viruss. So be aware, cus we might have tendency to just ignore them
