Why did he start looking me in the eyes again?

My ex guy best friend and I were super close but had a falling out two years ago and said pretty horrible stuff to each other. He was still choosing to be petty about it and would never look me in the eyes even though he’s a confident person. When I was trying to move on I mentioned to him how hurt I was but he said that the “breakup” didn’t affect him in any way yet, for some reason he never looked me in the eyes after that. He would look at everyone except me. We recently started small talks but he would still ignore eye contact until now. I don’t understand how this change happened overnight. Is he choosing to let it go? Does he care that it used to hurt me? Why can he look me in the eyes again? It’s just so strange...

But I literally did nothing to him, he’s the one who dropped me and I ended up getting hurt the most when he didn’t care about me. So how could he show contempt? Also if it was contempt why did he suddenly start looking in my eyes again?

I’m pretty sure he never liked me that way. Also if he liked me more than a friend then he wouldn’t have dropped me in the first place lol

I’m still unsure of what happened, he just completely dropped me out of the blue after a mini-argument. I tried to communicate with him after but it would never ever end well and made everything worse. He was set in stone as losing me as his best friend. If he truly liked me wouldn’t have hurt me like that.
