Because we like to play around. Guys can be jerks some times especially when they are not aware what message women get by that. For a guy chatting and texting with more than one women isn´t a big thing while in dating because it makes us feel better when we get attention from more than one of you.
He probably doesn´t realize that you see him online chatting with someone else. It´s not your fault, it just means that he´s not totally in love with you and hasn´t made the decision yet that you´re his one and only.
