What does it mean when my guy friend keeps offering to buy me stuff?

We're not that close, were acquaintances that talk maybe once a month or something and I actually don't know him in real life yet, he's just an online friend. But he's offered to take me to my favorite musicians concert and just wants to send me money or buy me stuff any chance he gets. Does it mean anything more than friendship? He hasn't flirted with me at all though or shown any interest in me so I'm super confused about this. He's in his 40s so I'm not sure if it's because of his age and he's just trying to be nice because he's old enough to be my dad or what.
