What does it mean when a guy friend pays for you?

My guy friend and I hung out together and went to get food. It wasn't a date or anything but he paid for the food. Is he just being generous or are there other intentions?

I'm always one of those people I do it because I can do it I do it because you're my friend and if you're with me it might not be something that you planned on doing I'm not going to ask you for any money or if you have money I'm just going to ask you what you want and for you to get whatever you want it's not a big deal

Probably just being generous. Several guys (me included) still believe that, when the opportunity arises, they should pay. Not necessarily looking for anything else.

It's usually, whoever invites the other person to dinner should pay, thats respectful.
so like if he invited you he probably payed respectfully, if you invited him you should've payed, so he payed to look manly

Yes. He always offers me rides as well so I offered to pay but he said that it was alright and he paid for both our meals.
