Guys, should I respond to my ex or leave him on read?

Long story short:

I had a situationship. About 6 months. We both clearly had feelings but I was leaving town for school soon so we never discussed or defined the relationship.

Towards the end, he started taking forever to reply to me, being straight up rude, and just pulling away for no apparent reason. Then he got kinda pissed when I called him out, so I dumped him.

Now, 5 months later he’s replied to my instagram story. Nothing about me, just some cute animal but it seems calculated considering that he knows I’m coming home next week and he hasn’t reached out to me otherwise this whole time.

Do I respond blandly to him, or does this make me seem easy? Should I leave it on read?

I seriously doubt he calculated anything. You are grossly inflating the significance of him responding to a stupid Instagram story. So how do you break up with this guy that you are in a 'situationship' with? Isn't that just a fancy name for friends with benefits? I wouldn't get your hopes up.
