Guys, Is he avoiding me?

It's pretty long but here's the thing, A guy I liked who also showed interest in me left a year ago. Everything was going fine until my best friend sent me his number. I said hi to him after a long time and he seemed ok with me texting him. Until he started replying to my texts later until never, and I was ok with it. Then my other friend called me and added him to the call, he quickly said he was busy and he would call later so I left the call. Then later my friend told me he's online which kinda gave me the idea. So my question is why didn't he end the conversation genuinely and go, instead of leaving my message on read for days. And now I kinda feel like confronting him coz I feel embarrassed. Guys help me out
