He wanted to spend the money on other stuff. But he didn't say it right away. He told me one day before the day we would supposedly meet, when I asked him "are we going out tomorrow?". He made sure I would come to the date and then told me we couldn't go out because of the reason I mentioned. He apologized for not telling me about it right away.

well that is rude, I know I could never do that to someone.
If a financial hardship happened I would let her know and if she wanted to at least watch a movie & pizza at home, or go to a park for a free concert, or something to save the date, and try to make it up at a later date if she is still talking to me at that point.

I guess I would give him 1 more chance, and if it happens again, then it is time.
It still doesn't sit right with me what he did, it kind of goes back to his character.
If you are the forging type then give him 1 more chance, but if you start to see this type of behavior pattern in anything, then move on.
You don't need to be treated that way.
